Internet Provider - Roadrunner "Light" - (BOO!!!!)

I've always had the full bandwidth version but recently tried the "light" version, which costs about $15 less a month. I'm here to tell you that the savings is not worth it . I think it's maybe 1/10th of the speed. In reality it should be less than half the cost per month for what you get. It sucks and it's going to go as of next month. Dont waste your $$. Stick with the full version or try another internet company's offering if you want to try to save some money. I guess I was pretty spoiled with what I had.

Posts: 3796 (03/07/10 01:50 PM) Admin Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've been on broadband cable internet for over 8 years now, and whenever I find myself having to use a computer on dialup or other molasses-slow feeds, I just shut it down and go away. That's how spoiled I am. You forget it and I'll forget it, but I'll remember it, and don't you forget it!

I have a way of seeing how much speed I can get for downloading and this "light" version is a shadow of the regular. I too have been on standard high speed for a number of years. This "light" would work fine for the occasional emailer, forum browser, or internet surfer but when it comes down to streaming videos and uploading/downloading even small files it's kinda crappy. I mean it works but soooo much slower. My PhotoBucket and Virb Accounts have taken a pretty hard hit with it. Youtube will work but not as well. Waiting a lot more on some videos....... . Live and learn.

It might answer some questions.

Take for example your RR "Light" which if I remember is clocked at about 768kbs. Now compare that to the "normal" RR broadband which varies in speed but for arguments sake it clocks in at 5mps,or over 7 times as fast as the "Light version. The company claims that you are saving money with the reduced billing,say $19.99 a month vs $49.99 a month because you are receiving a lessor product. But what they are actually doing is selling that same "extra" bandwidth to more customers which of course means more do re mi for them,all while the TV ads claim how much you the customer are saving! I live in a very small town with one cable company (monopoly) so I have two choices: telephone dial-up or Time Warner broadband so of course I'm going to choose the high speed. The part that I take issue with is that there is no competition to force Time Warner to be more competitive,and every time there is any talk of another company wanting to come in there is always a "reason" why they just fade away. Ron I'm not in this for fame,my reward is to know I have made a small difference in one person's life...

I've been lucky enough to have the same fee for years on my cable internet but now that I'm on this crappy "light" waste of $$ I will likely get the royal screws put to me when I go to switch back. Should have left well enough alone.......never again.
