Please allow me to start this thread by stating that I have found "THE" most magnificent, awe inspiring, warm and inviting high end guitar shop I've ever come across in my 35 years as a player. It's called "The Guitar Shoppe" and you can find it on the Pacific Coast Highway, (or as the locals call it, PCH) just north of Laguna Beach on the Ocean side of the road. I just got back from a ten day vacation in Southern California, (neener-neener), and finding this store was one of the highlights of the trip. I got to meet Kirk Sand who is a Master Luthier and makes some of the finest guitars I've ever laid my eyes/hands on. The term "projects like a cannon" is no small feat and usually is a superlative for describing the sound of a steel string dreadnaught acoustic but for Kirk's nylon stringed instrument's to do this in amazing to say the least. There simply is nothing like playing a hand build, custom guitar. You know the kind. They almost play themselves and reward your efforts with instant euphoric bliss. Sand guitars are just such a specimen and surprisingly quite affordable.
Keep in mind that I have not been further east than St. Paul, MN. and have spent most of my travels in the Southwest. I'm quite sure you have a store you've been to that made you feel like you entered "Guitar Heaven" when you stepped through the door. Where's your's?
P.S. Kirk gave me a DVD "just for stopping in" of Doyle Dykes called "Live Sessions" people, places...and pickin' That boy ain't half bad....it's a great DVD for any guitar fan.
