Here is an excerpt from a posting on the Collings Forum I find interesting. Although it is about a Martin Authentic the bigger question is about any guitar, (or any product for that matter) that is constructed with old technology or techniques.
Would you want your new car built with 1930's technology? There is a reason things evolve and progress; and CF Martin gives the reason in discussing the D-18 Authentic.
It brings about the question of the resale value of this type of product when there is no transferable warranty, basically taking the manufacturer off the hook for a product they themselves have serious questions about, and have charged a premium to cover.
I've seen a few used for sale in the $3,600 to $4,000 range.

"Here is a YouTube video of Chris Martin of Martin Guitars talking about their recent re-introduction of the Martin "D-18 Authentic".
In this video, he states that the reason they decided to charge a premium selling price is because the "original" D-18 guitars made in the
1930's created a lot of later warranty work due to their construction. Martin's concern is that, if they re-create these guitars again with the same
construction, they expect another flow of (profit-draining) warranty work.
Therefore, Chris Martin states that the company will set aside a portion of the sales price of these new "D-18 Authentics" to cover the cost of
future warranty repairs.
Anyone else think this is UNBELIEVABLE!

..........Modern construction techniques and materials aim to avoid warranty issues (while still trying to achieve great tone). To go back to the "old
ways" of doing things creates a GREAT sound . . . but a possible warranty nightmare for the guitar manufacturer!"

I won't be
around to hear it.
