I saw some of these guitars in a shop recently. Although they looked that they could use some set-up, they looked like decent enough imported guitars at
Martin prices. I really didn't get it - are they supposed to be musical instruments, or craft objects?

I've read some reviews of them that were pretty upbeat. Terry (greenvilleter) used to have one in his shop, IIRC. I can't get past the ornate carving.
I guess I'm very biased toward traditional appearance in guitars, and just looking at a Blueberry gives me culture shock.

The reviews in Harmony Central were almost all 10s, and the reviewers all gushed over the guitars. They sounded quite unrealistic to me. Far from me sounding
cynical, but were these reviews genuine?

I got a chance to see/play the "Blueberry" I had in the shop this past summer. I actually compared it to the Stanford
PSD-21 I have. The Blueberry was also spruce/sapele. The blueberry could/would drown out the stanford any time the guy wanted to. Definitely a powerhouse of a guitar. Never heard any guitar with the balls this one had. They have 3 back braces instead of the "Martin" 4 and also it was short braced on the top by 1 as well. The brace missing was one of the 2 major diagonal's that sit behind the standard typical X bracing on the lower bout. Their artwork...I'm not a fan of however, their sound is not hard to get used to. |

There are several makers which feature guitars with less bracing on the top; Martin D-1 series and Tacoma comes to mind. Such bracing seems to make for a
louder guitar in the bass positions while losing power and definition up the neck.
Perhaps I need to take one of my Eastmans up to the dealer and compare it to the Blueberrys. |
