Speculate on the Blueridge Forward-Shifted Bracing Difference! |
Lead | |
|
Anyone care to comment on how much of a difference there would be if Blueridge Guitars were not "forward-shifted" braced? Is a lot of the tone in the
light scalloped bracing and thickness (thinness) of the Spruce tops? How different would a Blueridge (pick any model) sound with standard braces? How about if
the braces weren't scalloped? Just food for thought.......Or maybe I need to get a life

Ryan, the early (like mine) BR140 models didn't have true "forward shifted" bracing as advertised. That breaks down to the x-brace being one inch
from the soundhole, and mine and most others from '02 through about '05 seemed to have the x-brace consistently placed at from 1 1/4" to 1
1/2" from the soundhole. The difference in sound between those older models and newer ones is negligible, IMHO. The higher end guitars with so called
forward-shifted pre-war bracing (like Martin) all have a much fuller, bassier sound than post-war braced models, so it definitely makes a difference, the same
as scalloped vs. straight does. Sometimes I wonder though, since most actual pre-war Martins were also scalloped, which of those features really has the most
impact on sound.
You forget it and I'll forget it, but I'll remember it, and don't you forget it!

I think I mentioned it before but I'm doing a science fair project in which I'm testing that in different kinds of x bracing. I'm using Standard X
bracing, scalloped X bracing and Martin's hybrid X bracing. I'm collecting data this weekend, I'll let you know what I find out.

Dave.....
Would you say then that your former BR140 was better balanced than a newer one might be? Ever get a chance to compare yours to a post-F/S 140 model? |

Hi Senpais/Sempais,
Also, I've read somewhere that not all X-braces are set at 90deg. some are at 93, 95 etc.
...I grew weary of the torment can there be no peace?
