Hi y'all, just bought a SC T-170, and have some pics. What do you think of yours so far? I've had mine for about 2 weeks.

what serial number did you get? Good way to see how many there are out now. Are you going to take off the pick guard? I may do that & leave it with
nothing, but it does not look bad the way it is. Do tops with poly finish darken the same way to leave a shadow of pick guard if I decide at later date to
take off?

I think i got a good one, and hope it...

It looks like Kimsey will scallop straight braces for $100. The Silver Creek's braces are already scalloped, but they're thick. I'd taper the tops
of the squared-off braces, and maybe reduce the height of the finger braces.

I'd think you'd hear the difference immediately. Every bit of material removed from the top should translate into less energy required to set the top
in motion. The trick is to not weaken the top to the point where it'll deform under tension.

Just a little trim, perhaps. :)

I have no experience, but it seems like an interesting project. I was thinking of using my Eastman as a template to determine a safe amount of material to
remove. The finger braces on the Silver Creek are especially tall and wide compared to the Eastman's, and I figure those would have the least structural
  impact.

I consider the SC an inexpensive experimental platform, but I'd still like somebody else to go first. :)

Seems like it would be more fun to do with a dread model (D-170 or D-160). Well, I'm more a dread fan anyway. They say it can take a long time (years) to
get the full effects of brace shaving after it's been done to a guitar. Last I knew, that Brian Kimsey will do it for around $100. Not sure if he's
still that cheap but it's a very good price. Some guys charge ridiculous amounts and Brian is supposed to be pretty good....

  Welcome to Club Silver Creek!

I've got both the 000 models. Definitely heavily braced, but they're pretty much the most comfortable guitars I own. Love the neck, love the scale
length, love the body depth, love the string spacing.

Great for practice, and I take mine outside very often. So, I can confirm that the top gets much darker with sun exposure. Took both pickguards off as soon
as I got them, but I can see the difference in the tops between the inside git and the outside git.

I'm seriously considering shaving the braces, and I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard of anybody doing that yet. The downside is minimal, and
  the upside is TONE!

Shaving braces? Do you have experience with that? Or are you meaning you would have someone do it? I'd like to send my Aria AD-80 out for a little brace
shaving as...

Haven't played one but they seem an unbeatable deal if you get one that's free of issues. One guy on another forum just got #3 and will be sending
this one back, as it has a crack in the back. His first one had a bad tuner and second one had a glue problem with the bridge. Guess some of us have worse luck
than others . That said I would try out one of the SC dreads if I
needed a cheap solid wood guitar. Alas I have more import guitars than I should own already . Enjoy that new git! Oh, and welcome to the forum............

I think i got a good one, and hope it improves with age. The bracing seems a bit on the heavy side, especially the back braces, and I am wondering if it will
break in as well as a guitar with not as heavy bracing. Finish seems o.k., could be thinner, but not bad. Tone seems to be good, bass is there, but could be
better. Sustain is good, no dead spots. I did not have to mess with the nut, looks good. Frets are good too. Only thing i did was turn rod to get relief
out of neck, and sand down bone saddle a touch off...
