I just got from Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI, a brand new Recording King ROS 06 12th fret guitar. Solid spruce top, laminated mahogany back and sides, slotted headstock. I paid for the guitar much less than $ 300.00.

Although I am very picky with the instruments I buy, this guitar really exceeds my expectations. First of all, it is perfect, no flaws of any kind, very well built in every detail, both outside and inside where it is very clean with no traces of glue residue.

The tone is surprisingly good, loud and balanced, and warm, with great trebles and surprising basses. Playability is excellent. Neck angle is 100% perfect.

The nut slots are cut very well , so the playability is awesome. I replaced the factory installed D'Addario phosphor Bronze Lights with Elixir Bronze

light-medium (a favorite set of mine) and the guitar's tone shines. Only - minor - issue - the saddle is a bit too low and even with a bit of additional neck...

A few weeks ago I bought a nice Recording King dreadnought, Jubilee Series, model RDJ-16-SN. Yesterday night I placed the guitar close to a source of light and looked inside the sound hole . Surprisingly enough, there were two spots of light coming out from one of the braces ! In these two small points , there is no wood and the only cover is given by the exterior plastic white binding. If I see the guitar from the outside, everything looks OK. But I wonder if these two spots with no wood at all can compromise the strenght of the body structure in the long run ? Greg ? Thank you for your opinions.

<img...

Back and sides are laminate mahogany.
It is lightly braced, pre-war style, and it sounds and plays great ! (with lights, didn't try mediums). It is loud, warm and balanced for finger style, and handles strumming well (although not as well as my Martin MMV with medium strings). Basses are very warm and clear, and trebles are fat.
I am really surprised by this guitar's tone: it is a a sort of mix between a Gibson J45 and a Martin D 28 (with all due respect, of course!).
I wonder if any other forum member has the same guitar and can comment on it...

Just bought a used ROS647 that has plenty of finish checking on the top (Leads me to believe that the top is finished in Nitrocellulose, as RK claims, as I've never seen a checked poly finish before). I did though, scratch the side of the guitar and when I went to sand the area for touch up refinishing, I got the dreaded poly worn circle effect, something that I'm sure would not happen with a nitro finish. I cant say anything about the back, but I can say, with some certainty, that the sides of this guitar are finished in polyurethane.

Have we all been duped?

I am very fond of the guitar BTW, it sounds great and though the previous owner set the action way, way too low, it plays damn well in spite of it.

Just had a look in a shop not far from me at the new ROS 16 parlour guitar and what a lovely looking instrument, though sadly let down by one of the worst neck angles I've ever seen on a new guitar. The strings were almost flat over the saddle with a medium action and with just a little bit of adjustable relief left in the neck. So dissapointing cause for the price it seems like a really nice guitar.

So I bought a Recording King at a pawn shop yesterday. It was in there for 60 pounds (UK), so I played it and could *not* believe the sound. I mean, it wouldn't compete with a Martin or anything, but it's a low end one, I think - RD17BK. Well, it needs a bit of a setup, so I got it home, got the strings off it, and noticed the sticker inside was peeling a little bit. I reached in and peeled it back a littel more. Basically, I got a little overzealous and ruined the sticker, but there's another sticker underneath. I can't get the newer one off without ruining the bottom one too, so I'm destined to not know what the original sticker is and why it's there... Unless... someone here can help...

All I can see on the original sticker is "Made in China" and the year 1993. It's kind of a brown colour as opposed to the blue of the new sticker. Any thoughts? I'm so curious!
